Nursing home residents do not need much; they just need a little attention as signs of being loved and cared.  Like Mother Teresa stated, the most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved, and an hour visit each week will diminish this type of poverty.  If some people who still cannot handle being in nursing homes after being there for a period of time, they can help these elders by sending them letters, visiting them only over the holidays, or trying to raise an awareness of how the elders live in nursing homes.  There are also ways to help the elders from being abused: noticing and reporting the problems to authorities, trying to help them with what they need help with, and being respectful to them.  Moreover, supporting people around is a great way to help younger Americans from being lonely and depressed.
