Nursing Homes’ Advantages

There are some advantages of living in nursing homes like being protected and cared for.  For instance, the ombudsmen at Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency advocate for residents’ rights.  They take time to talk to the residents and build trust between them and the residents; they care about the residents more than their families care for them.  For example, when a resident name Ginny seemed to lose interest in the activities that NHOA provided, an ombudsman immediately tried everything to help her.  After realized that Ginny liked painting, the ombudsman helped her make a detailed list of supplies and even bought her some of the supplies that NHOA did not provide.  There is also an ombudsman by the name of Ann Evans lady enjoying a painting activitywho does not care what time of the day it is, she always tries to be there for the residents when they need her.  One time, she recalled the story, a resident called her at night because that resident was upset about something; she came right there beside her and helped the resident resolve her problem.  According to Troy Johnson, the director of program and services of the NHOA, the institute also provides the sense of community and friendship for the residents; however, in order for them to participate in the nursing home community, they need visitors to help these residents interested in the activities that the institute offers.  Moreover, because of limited available beds in nursing homes, some residents have to move to another community where their family members are not able to visit them often.  Thus, living in nursing homes—with the help of visitors— can help some residents with their mental and physical needs.
